However, I prefer to treat the issue initially as a mix of perfectionism, anxiety, boredom, weak planning skills, and the habit of relying on last-minute bursts of effort. When adults see only the unfinished work, they may miss the thinking patterns underneath it.
The good news is that procrastination is a skill problem as much as a motivation problem. Skills can be taught. With the right structure, smart kids can learn how to start, plan, persist, and recover when a task feels uncomfortable.

Why smart kids procrastinate even when they care

They wait. They panic. They work fast. They get a good grade. Then they conclude, “This is just how I work.”
