We request payment for the month on the first of the month at your quoted price. We can always add sessions if you'd like tutoring more than once per week, not a problem. Times are NOT reserved until payment is received; if you would like to lock in a scheduled session, it is advisable to pay early.
For your first session, we prefer that you pay at least the initial meeting in advance.
Please email us for direct payment information. We can accept cash apps (Venmo/PayPal), checks, cash, or credit cards. Fee-free transactions receive the cash price. To pay via Venmo or PayPal, parents must only write "Thanks" or an emoji in the transaction field.
Bounced checks will incur a $50 fee. Payment must be made by an adult (over 18).
Kate's Tutoring has a no-cancellation policy and a 36-hour rescheduling policy. Lessons canceled without 36 hour prior notice will be charged at the full rate. If sessions are rescheduled, a makeup session must be arranged within 7 days or those missed hours are lost. I understand that this can be a steep price to pay but this policy has proven to be necessary. It is ultimately the parent's responsibility to make sure the student is prepared and on time. The sooner you cancel, the sooner I can try to fill that time slot and prevent losing my income for the day.
Fees are based upon the student's ability to attend all lessons as stipulated in the schedule; no discounts or refunds will be given for lessons not attended by the student. All sessions are to be completed within the monthly billing cycle; i.e., if you reschedule in December, the lesson MUST be made up in December and does not forward into Jan/Feb.
Makeup sessions must be scheduled within 7 days of the missed lesson, otherwise that session fee is forfeit.
Exceptions to this policy are solely at the tutor's discretion.
If the tutor must cancel, we'll reschedule at your convenience.
No Show Policy
Students who are more than 15 minutes late to their lesson are considered a no-show. No discounts or refunds will be issued if a student does not show.
Office Hours Policy
My admin office hours are from 9am to 2pm Monday through Thursday. Please do not expect responses outside of those hours.
All in person sessions take place at a local library in Glendale. As of March 2020, my sessions moved online. I use Skype and Google Hangouts primarily.
Recommended Lesson Duration
For most of my students I recommend sessions of 1 hour in length. For my ACT and SAT test prep students, I require meetings in 2 hour blocks. Pricing is given per hour.
For group classes, I recommend 90 minutes to 2 hours for most small groups. The more students in the class, the longer the meetings should be, generally.
All rates, including hourly and packages, reflect both hidden costs and experience. Kate is a licensed teacher registered with the state and with the National Tutor's Association and has been tutoring for nearly 15 years. Lesson prep, continuing education, overhead, and off-the-clock meetings/emails with parents are all hidden within the tutoring price. Kate's prices are also significantly lower for private, one on one tutoring than major test prep companies. The experience of their tutors is rarely comparable.
That said, I am more than happy to chat about small group rates if your student has a friend or two!
Warranties & Refunds
We have a No Refund Policy for all services. Refund requests, regardless of reason or advance notice, will not be honored. We're happy to schedule a trial hour (at a normal rate) to make sure we are a good fit but once a package is bought, there are no refunds. Exceptions may be made due to serious illness, death, or other emergency.
While we strive to provide the best education possible, we make no promises or warranties regarding a student's performance as a result of tutoring provided.
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.
