Frequently asked questions
Kate's Tutoring has a no-cancellation policy and a 2-business-day (Mon-Thur) rescheduling policy.
Kate's Tutoring enforces a strict cancellation and rescheduling policy:
Reschedule requests without proper notice are charged at full rate.
Rescheduled sessions must occur within 7 days.
Multiple reschedules aren't allowed.
Being over 15 minutes late counts as a no-show, with no refunds.
Fees are non-refundable for missed lessons.
All sessions are to be completed within the monthly billing cycle; i.e., if you reschedule in December, the lesson MUST be made up in December and does not roll forward Jan/Feb.
Exceptions are granted at the tutor's discretion.
If the tutor cancels, sessions are rescheduled at the student's convenience.
I understand that this can be a steep price to pay but this policy has proven to be necessary. It is ultimately the parent's responsibility to make sure the student is prepared and on time. The sooner you cancel, the sooner I can try to fill that time slot and prevent losing my income for the day.
Payment for the month is due upfront at the end of the previous month. Sessions are not held until payment is received.
Recurring Payment Due Date:
Recurring invoices are due before EOD on the 26th of each month.
Invoices will be delivered to you on or before the 24th of each month. This allows us to manage our resources effectively and continue delivering the best possible service to our students.
If you've opted for automatic credit card billing, we'll charge automatically.
Late Fees:
If payment is not received by the 26th, a late fee of $25 will be charged.
An additional late fee of $25 will be charged for each subsequent month the invoice remains unpaid.
Notification:
Invoices and reminders are automated.
Invoices are sent on or before the 24th and reminders are sent 2 days later.
Payment Methods:
Detailed payment instructions are provided on each invoice.
We accept payments via cash apps (Venmo/PayPal/Zelle), checks, cash, or credit cards. Cash transactions enjoy fee-free pricing. For Venmo or PayPal payments, a simple "Thanks" or emoji in the transaction field suffices.
Bounced checks will incur a $50 fee, and payments must be made by adults aged 18 or older.
New Invoices
Invoices to start sessions are due before EOD after confirming your time. Times are not reserved until you pay.
Times are released the morning after initial invoice is sent if payment has not been received.
If you wish to keep your time after we release it, a $25 late fee will be assessed.
Special Arrangements:
If you anticipate any difficulties in making a payment on time, please contact us before the due date to discuss possible arrangements. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and we are willing to work with you to find a solution.
If dates listed on your invoice are incorrect, please let me know before the 26th to avoid late fees.
Suspension of Services:
If an invoice remains unpaid after the 28th, we remove your family from the roster and may give your time slot to our waiting list.
If you wish to return, a $25 late fee will be assessed.

My admin office hours are from 11:30am to 6:30pm Monday through Thursday. Please do not expect responses outside of those hours.
I am not available via phone from 2pm onward. I strongly encourage emails!
We're happy to have students try out our sessions before committing to the month. We do suggest booking two or three meetings before deciding, but we can work with one!
Trial sessions are paid for at the time of booking. Trial sessions may NOT be rescheduled.
For most of my students I recommend sessions of 1 hour in length. For my ACT and SAT test prep students, I require meetings in 2 hour blocks. Pricing is given per hour.

For group classes, I recommend 90 minutes to 2 hours for most small groups. The more students in the class, the longer the meetings should be, generally.
All rates, including hourly and packages, reflect both hidden costs and experience. Kate is a licensed teacher registered with the state and with the National Tutor's Association and has been tutoring for nearly 15 years. Lesson prep, continuing education, overhead, and off-the-clock meetings/emails with parents are all hidden within the tutoring price. Kate's prices are also significantly lower for private, one on one tutoring than major test prep companies. The experience of their tutors is rarely comparable.
We do not offer discounts and we are not open to negotiation.

That said, I am more than happy to chat about small group rates if your student has a friend or two!

We have a No Refund Policy for all services. Refund requests, regardless of reason or advance notice, will not be honored. We're happy to schedule a trial hour (at a normal rate) to make sure we are a good fit but once a package is bought, there are no refunds. Exceptions may be made due to serious illness, death, or other emergency.

While we strive to provide the best education possible, we make no promises or warranties regarding a student's performance as a result of tutoring provided.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.
