Good tutors change how students learn.

We're building a network of exceptional educators who care about more than getting through the homework. We value thoughtful teaching, intellectual curiosity, and helping students become confident, independent learners.

Trust is at the heart of our work. Tutoring is a service that families invest in because they want to help their children succeed, and we take seriously our responsibility to recommend support that genuinely serves each student's needs. We never want families to feel that they're being pressured into services they don't need or that their concerns are being used to sell more sessions. We are partners with our families and, ultimately, we want families to trust that when we make a recommendation, it's because we genuinely believe it's in the student's best interest.

Thoughtful matching

We connect tutors with students whose needs align with their expertise.

Professional respect

We value your expertise, judgment, and communication with families.

Teaching that adapts

We value tutors who figure out how a student thinks, not just how to explain the material.

Independence

Build your own practice while receiving referrals and administrative support.

Expertise matters. So does how you teach.

Our tutors do more than explain material. They build trust with students, adapt when something isn't clicking  and help students develop the skills to succeed independently.

We're especially interested in educators who:

  • Have a strong command of their subjects and can teach beyond simply following a textbook.

  • Adapt when a student is confused, frustrated, or disengaged.

  • Build strong relationships with students and communicate professionally with families.

  • Communicate proactively and professionally.

  • Take responsibility for their schedules, preparation, and follow-through.

  • Enjoy helping students develop skills they can eventually use on their own.

  • Are versatile and can support students across multiple subjects

  • Think beyond the immediate assignment and recognize when a student could benefit from additional support.

  • Value collaboration and communicate with us when questions or concerns arise.

Our students are typically in middle and high school, with needs ranging from academic coursework to advanced test preparation and executive functioning.

You teach. We help make the match.

We connect tutors with families whose needs align with their expertise and availability. We handle client intake, referrals, and billing for assignments arranged through our agency, so you can spend more of your time doing what you do best.

You're an independent professional: you propose your own rates, use your own teaching methods and materials, and remain free to work with other agencies and private clients. We value clear communication, dependable partnerships, and the expertise each tutor brings to our network.

Availability and Commitment

Tutoring offers flexibility, but it’s important to understand what that flexibility looks like in practice.

Sessions are scheduled around the availability of both tutors and students. Most tutoring takes place during:

  • Weekdays: Approximately 3:00–9:00 PM Pacific

  • Weekends: Approximately 10:00 AM–8:00 PM Pacific

To be a good fit for our network, you ideally have consistent availability during peak tutoring hours, particularly on weekday afternoons and evenings. The more flexibility you have, the more opportunities we may be able to refer your way, though referrals depend on client needs and the fit between a student and tutor.

We also value consistency. Families often need support over an extended period, and we aim to match students with tutors who can build relationships and provide continuity throughout the school year. Before accepting a referral, please consider whether you can realistically accommodate the student's needs and maintain that commitment for the expected duration of the assignment.

As an independent tutor, you remain in control of your schedule and the referrals you accept. There is no minimum number of weekly tutoring hours, and you're welcome to continue working with other agencies and private clients.

Is this a good fit?

All applicants must have:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university.

  • At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience.

  • Reliable equipment and internet for online instruction.

  • Availability that aligns with student demand, particularly weekday afternoons and evenings Pacific Time.

Our selection process includes an application, a short video conversation and teaching sample, and reference and background checks.

Our tutors propose their own rates, which we discuss before making referrals. For context, most assignments through Kate’s Tutoring fall in the $20–$30 per hour range for tutors, depending on the subject, experience, and type of tutoring. Rates outside this range may be considered for specialized expertise, but we are generally looking for tutors whose rates align with this model.

Tutors remain independent professionals and are welcome to work with other agencies and private clients. Kate’s Tutoring handles client intake, student matching, and billing for assignments arranged through our agency.

Bring your expertise. We'll help you put it to work.

We're selective about the educators we recommend, and we're always interested in meeting excellent tutors whose strengths complement our network.
